General

When should I take foreign exchange if I am planning for a foreign trip?
Foreign exchange for travel related purposes could be released up to 60 days prior to the date of travel. Hence ticket confirmed for departure is required for release of exchange. (Except in case of students traveling abroad for higher studies).

How much forex I can take in the form of Currency per trip ?
A maximum of US Dollars 3000 or its equivalent can be carried in Currency Notes per person per trip. For travel to CIS, Russia and Iran the entire foreign exchange requirement can be released in the form of Currency Notes.

How much Forex I can take if I travel to Neighboring countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar by land route ?
Authorized Dealers may release exchange to travelers proceeding to Pakistan, Bangladesh or Myanmar by land route up to the amount asked for but within the eligible limit of U.S.$ 10,000 per person provided the traveler is eligible for release of exchange under BTQ. The journey ticket need not be insisted upon. All other conditions regarding application, verification of passport for eligibility, limit for sale of foreign currency, endorsement on traveler's passport for sale of foreign exchange under BTQ, etc. remains unchanged.

What do you mean by "Business Visit" ?
Business visits sponsored by firms/companies/organisations in India, journalists deputed on short-term assignments abroad by newspapers / journals and self-employed professionals like Solicitors, Chartered Accountants, undertaking visits abroad in connection with their profession.

What is the documentation required for Business Visit?
Letter (in duplicate) from the sponsoring firm/company/ organisation [from the applicant in cases of self-employed professionals] indicating name, address, nationality, passport number of the traveler, duration and nature of visit to each country, exchange required and certifying that the expenses are being borne by them.

What do you mean by travel under "BTQ"?
Resident Indian citizens are eligible under the scheme of Basic Travel Quota(BTQ) to avail of foreign exchange up to U.S.$ 10,000 or its equivalent for undertaking one or more private visits to any country abroad (except Nepal and Bhutan) in any calendar year. Foreign nationals permanently resident in India are also eligible to avail of this quota provided they are not availing of facilities for remittance of their salary, savings etc. abroad.

What is the documentation required for BTQ?
Documentation Required:
1.Letter (in duplicate) giving particulars such as name, address, nationality, country of visit, number and date and place of issue of passport of the traveler along with the passport and containing declaration that the exchange applied for together with the exchange already availed of, if any, under the Basic Travel Quota during the calendar year does not exceed U.S.$ 10,000 or its equivalent.
2.If the applicant is a foreign national permanently resident in India he/she should give an undertaking on the application itself that he/she is permanently resident in India and is not availing of facilities for remittance of his/her salary, savings, etc. abroad in terms of the existing Exchange Control regulations.

  Special Conditions:                                                                                                                                                  

Passport of the traveler should be verified by the authorized dealer to ensure his eligibility for release of exchange under BTQ.

Passport of the traveler should be endorsed with the amount of exchange sold and notation 'Basic Travel Quota' under proper authentication with stamp and date. A photocopy each of the relevant pages of the traveler's passport where personal particulars are available for example, name, address, date of birth, signature, photograph and number, date, place of issue and validity period of passport, visa for country of visit and the pages where endorsement for BTQ has been made.

In the event of cancellation of the journey and surrender of exchange to the authorized dealer, the endorsement on the passport relating to the exchange sold may be cancelled by the authorized dealer under his stamp and signature with date.


What can I do with my unspent Foreign Exchange?
Reserve Bank of India Regulations requires Indians to surrender unspent Foreign Exchange within 6 months of returning to India. Hence your unspent Forex can be either kept for later use (if travel is scheduled within six months of returning) or encashed for Indian Rupees at VKC or any authorised financial institution.

Do I get change back if I do not use the full face value of a Cheque?
Yes, you will get change back.

Are there any RBI Regulations governing changing foreign currency travellers cheques to Indian Rupees by tourists or NRIs?
Reserve Bank of India Regulations permits tourists/NRIs to freely change foreign currency travellers cheques to Indian Rupees.

Is there any specific RBI Regulation for bringing in foreign currency travellers cheques into India?
RBI has granted general permission to any person to bring foreign currency into India from any place outside India without limit. However, they have indicated certain limits in excess of which a person has to declare the foreign currency brought into the country to the Customs Authorities on arrival.

Do Travellers Cheques expire?
Travellers Cheques never expire. Unused Cheques can be saved for future trips.

Can I accept Travellers Cheques from another person?
Yes, you can accept Cheques from another individual. You must watch the person countersign the Cheque in the lower left-hand corner and compare it with the original signature. If the Travellers Cheque has already been signed in both the upper and lower corners, or if you have any questions about the validity of a Cheque, call an American Express Travellers Cheque Customer Service Centre. Where can I use Travellers Cheques?
American Express Travellers Cheques are recognised around the world and can be used like cash in many locations, or exchanged for local currency at banks, foreign exchange bureaux, hotels and American Express Travel Service locations.

 

Where do I sign Travellers Cheques?
When first purchased, Travellers Cheques must be signed in the upper left-hand corner in order to be reimbursable if lost or stolen. When the Cheques are cashed, make sure the acceptor watches while you countersign the Cheque in the lower left-hand corner.

What happens if I sign the Cheque in the wrong place, or my signatures don't match?
Acceptance of Travellers Cheques and Cheques for Two is based on the acceptor watching the customer sign the Cheque in the lower left corner, and then comparing that signature with the original signature in the upper left corner (the lower left signature on a Cheques for Two must match one of the two signatures in the upper left). The acceptor must observe the customer signing the Cheque. If the signatures are a reasonable match, the Cheque should be accepted. As always, if the acceptor is unsure, they should call an American Express Travellers Cheque Customer Service Centre.

When do I fill out the date on my Travellers Cheque?
The date, in the upper right-hand corner, should be filled out upon use, just like a personal cheque.

Is there a fee to cash Travellers Cheques?
Normally, there is no fee to cash Travellers Cheques at merchants. Some establishments, primarily outside of the U.S., may charge a small fee. There are currently over 62,000 locations around the world that accept American Express Travellers Cheques fee free. What happens if I lose my Travellers Cheques?
If your Travellers Cheques are lost or stolen, contact an American Express Travellers Cheques Customer Service Centre immediately. They will provide you with step-by-step instructions for reimbursement. To ensure your reimbursement, remember to keep a record of all the Travellers Cheques serial numbers in a safe location separate from your Cheques.

Where can I get my Cheques reimbursed?
If your Cheques are lost or stolen, you must contact an American Express Travellers Cheques Customer Service Centre immediately. They will provide you with step-by-step instructions for replacing your Cheques at your nearest Travel Service Location.

 

Cheque Serial Numbers
When you purchase Travellers Cheques, it is very important that you record the serial numbers of each Cheque. If you need to report lost or stolen Travellers Cheques, you will be asked to provide the serial number of the Cheque in question. Keep your list of serial numbers in a safe place, separate from your Cheques.

How do I get refunded for the lost Travellers Cheques?
If your Travellers Cheques are lost or stolen, the issuer will refund their face value provided

Before Loss:
You have signed each cheque at the place marked "Signature of the Holder" in non-erasable ink immediately upon receipt, but have not countersigned any of them. You have safeguarded each cheque against loss or theft as you would a similar amount of your own cash. You have not parted with the cheques voluntarily or as collateral security.
After Loss:
You notify the issuer within 24 hours of the loss or theft of your cheques, and the local police reporting the circumstances of the loss or theft in such details as may be reasonably required and obtain a FIR. You supply the Purchaser's receipt copy of the sales advice (PAF), as well as acceptable proof of your identity, when making your refund claim. You complete the appropriate refund claim documents to reasonable satisfaction and sign them in good faith.

What should be done with a deceased person's unused Travelers Cheques?
The estate beneficiary or executor should take the Travelers Cheques, the death certificate, and any other estate papers esignating the beneficiary to their, or the estates, bank, etc and approach the issuer.

What is Axis Bank Travel Currency Card?

Do I need to apply for the card well in advance?
NO! This card is an 'across the shelf' product and can be bought even on the day of travel, subject to the funds being provided the same day.

What is my PIN?
Your PIN (Personal Identification Number) is a unique 4 digit secure number assigned to your card and known only to you. It allows you to withdraw cash from VISA/VISA Plus ATMs worldwide. This PIN can be changed (only) at any Axis Bank ATM in India.

 

Withdrawing Cash?
To withdraw cash, you would need to insert your card into the cash machine and follow the instructions on screen. Enter your PIN and indicate the amount you want to withdraw in the local currency. The requisitioned cash will be dispensed in the local currency of the country you are in.

Do I need to have a Axis Bank Account to purchase the Axis Bank Travel Currency Card?
You don't need an account relationship with Axis Bank to purchase Axis Bank Travel Currency Card. Simply walk into any Axis Bank Branch or the office of select Full Fledged Money Changers and purchase a Axis Bank Travel Currency Card over the counter.

Can this card be used in India?
No! You can use the card only for checking the balance and changing the PIN at Axis Bank ATMs. No financial transactions are allowed in India, Nepal & Bhutan.

How much money can I load onto my Travel Currency Card?
The minimum purchase value of Travel Currency Card is US $ 250, EUR 200, GBP 150, AUD 300 and CAD 300. The maximum value that can be carried on a Card at any given point will be as per the RBI Regulation in force at that time.


What are the currencies available for Travel Currency Card?
The Travel Currency Card is available in USD, EUR, GBP, AUD and CAD. You can use Travel Currency Card in any country where VISA has an acceptance. All the currency variants are a multi-currency product. This implies that you can take any of the above card and travel to any country and still get the local currency. The local currency is dispensed after applying the cross currency charges, as applicable at the time of the transaction. Your card account will be debited in the equivalent of the Base currency taken by you.

What documents do I need to submit when I purchase Travel Currency Card?
You will have to submit a copy of the following documents to Axis Bank Branch/ Money Changer Along with the application form for the Axis Bank Travel Currency Card:

Will I find VISA ATMs where I am going?
There are over 10,00,000 VISA ATMs worldwide so, you can look upto the location of VISA accepting ATMs on their website www.visa.com. Unless you are traveling to someplace Very remote, it is very unlikely that you won't be able to find one.

Can I reload the card?
Incase you have exhausted the funds on the card; you can reload your card with additional funds. The easiest way to do this is to go back to the Axis Bank Branch / FFMC where you bought it. Contact the Axis Bank 24-hour Helpline 91-22-55987700 for more information.

 

Do I need to surrender the card at the branch at the time of encashment?
Yes! In case you want to encash the entire unspent amount on the card, you need to cut the card into 4 pieces at the time of surrender.

What are the debit charges in case of usage at Telephones/Petrol pumps abroad?
The Telephones/petrol pumps generally debit US$ 1 equivalent at the time of card insertion. The total amount debited is inclusive of this US $1, which will be reflected as 2 different entries in the system

What are the costs involved at the time of purchase?
Rs. 150 - Card Issuance Fee

What is the maximum number of cards that can be issued?
Each individual will be entitled to purchase one card of each currency. However, an individual cannot hold more than a single card of the same currency at any given point of time. The total amount of foreign currency loaded in combination on all five cards would be as per the guidelines issued by the RBI for the specific quota under which the card is being issued. The card will be issued in the name of the Card member and may be used only by him/her for Cash withdrawals/purchases.

 

When can I use the card after purchase?
You are advised to commence the usage of the card only after a couple of hours. You are also advised to ensure that you have received the PIN and sign on the signature panel at the back of the card. It is also advisable to change the PIN and check the Balance on the card at any Axis Bank ATM before your departure from the country.

Which ATM's accept the Travel Currency Card?
All ATMs displaying the Visa / Plus symbol will accept your Axis Bank Travel Currency Card.

What do I do if my card is lost or stolen?
In case of loss or theft of the card please call us on one of the numbers mentioned in the User's Guide. Our Customer Service Executives will immediately block the lost card and prevent it from further use and arrange to send you a replacement card within 2 working days.

Is there a fee levied for the use of VISA ATM's?
There is a transaction fee levied at various ATM's for cash withdrawal & Balance Inquiry as per the table hereunder:

How competitive is the foreign exchange rate for withdrawals in the local currency using the Axis Bank Travel Currency Card as compared to hotels, Moneychangers or travel agents?
In comparison, Axis Bank Travel Currency Card exchange rates are definitely more favorable. The customer can be rest assured that the rate will be much finer than what is given to a retail customer by a MoneyChanger/ Forex bureau.

 

How do I withdraw the remaining cash from my card if it is too small for a cash machine to dispense?
The easiest way to cash out your card, if you don't want to reload it for your next trip, is to go to the nearest Axis Bank branch and get the remaining amount encashed.

Does the Visa ATM display the foreign exchange rate of conversion?
No, generally, ATMs display the amount withdrawn and balance available in the local currency. With this information, you can calculate the foreign exchange rate applied.

Is there any other way in which I can keep a track of my balance and the latest transactions?
You can access the Internet banking module, iConnect™ for keeping a track of your balances and the transactions done on your card. The Internet banking user id is mentioned on the sticker placed on the welcome kit. The password is enclosed in the welcome kit in a sealed envelope for security reasons. You can visit the web-site www.Axisbank.com. Select the "Logon to net Banking" section on the top left hand side to access the service.

Do the ATM receipts show the amount withdrawn and balance available?
Most of the VISA ATMs have the capability of displaying the amount withdrawn and balance available in the local currency.

What options should I Choose to withdraw cash from the ATM?
Generally, the options available at the ATM for cash withdrawal are "Checking", "Credit", and "Savings". You should choose the "Checking/Current" option. In case the Checking/Current option is not available, you should select the "Credit" option. The Savings option does not link to the VISA network and hence the transaction would not be successful.

 

Customer at merchant establishments should look for the following:
 · Customer should look for VISA/ VISA Electron sign at the point-of- sale merchant establishment
 · The Merchant must have an electronic point of sale card swiping terminal
 · Present your Travel Card after making purchase
 · Do not give your PIN to the merchant even if requested. PIN is not required for POS transactions
 · After a successful authorization, a hold for the transacted amount will first be placed on your account. Subsequently, your    account will be debited for the transacted amount
 · A sales slip will be generated from the electronic card-swiping terminal.
 · Check and sign the sales slip. Your signature must match the one on your Travel Card
 · Ensure your card is returned to you

Who should I contact if my card is lost or stolen?
You should call Axis Bank phone banking immediately at 91 -22 -55987700 to report the loss of your Axis Bank Travel Currency card. It is important to note that a lost Card report will be taken only after verification of your Mother's maiden name, Date of Birth, Passport no etc. You will not be liable for transactions on you Card Account (if any) from the moment you report the loss to Axis Bank. You will however, be accountable for all damages upto the time of reporting.

In countries where ATM instructions are in an unfamiliar language, whom can I approach for assistance?
English is available at most Visa ATMs. Some ATMs are also multi-lingual. However, if you require assistance, you can call the Visa GCAS numbers enumerated in the user guide.

Is there any fee for obtaining refunds on the balance on the Axis Bank Travel Currency Card?
No fee will be charged for enchasing the balances. The card rate for foreign exchange conversion will be applicable.

How do I pay for the transaction?

How quickly does the money get there?

How will the transaction be paid out to the receiver?
Money transfers will normally be paid out in cash (U.S. or local currency) depending on destination, dollar amount and availability, but could also be paid out in travelers check, money order, a MoneyGram money transfer check or a combination thereof depending on the availability at the agent's location. International payouts vary based on local laws and availability as well.

How does MoneyGram work?
The sender goes to a MoneyGram agent, fills out a send form, pays the agent with cash and receives a receipt with a reference number, which should be passed on to the receiver. The receiver then goes to a MoneyGram location, fills out a receive form, shows identification and receives their MoneyGram. It's that easy! Customers in the U.S. can also send money using MoneyGram® e-Money Transfers on-line.

What if my receiver doesn't have identification?
You can include a test question (something only you and your receiver would know the answer to) on the send transaction. This can serve as an identification method for most transactions below a certain dollar amount.

It can be used at over 850,000 Visa ATMs worldwide and at over 13 million Visa Merchant Establishments worldwide. This card cannot be used for payments in India, Nepal or Bhutan.

What are the currencies available for HDFC ForexPlus?
The HDFC ForexPlus is currently available in 3 currencies, US dollar, Euro and GBP.

How does this card work?
The HDFC Bank ForexPlus card works just like a Credit Card for purchase transactions at Merchants' Establishments that have an electronic terminal. The only difference is that the transaction amount is directly debited from your HDFC Bank ForexPlus card balance. Your HDFC Bank ForexPlus card is accepted at over 13 million Merchant Establishments displaying theVisa symbol.

The card can be used to withdraw cash at all Visa ATMs. It is accepted at over 8,50,000 VISA ATMs worldwide and irrespective of the currency of the card, the cash will be in the currency of the country. Only ensure that you remember the PIN given to you with the card pack. The same is unique for every card and cannot be changed at any domestic or international ATM

Do I need to have HDFC Bank account to purchase the HDFC Bank ForexPlus card?
No, you don't need to have an account with HDFC Bank to purchase the Bank ForexPlus card.

 

How soon can the card be used after it is purchased?
Your card will be activated with the loaded USD/Euros/GBP within a few hours.

Are there any transactions for which this Card should not be used?
Yes, your card should not be used for temporary charges - e.g. paying deposits at hotels, hiring of cars etc. Incase you have paid these deposits using the ForexPlus card and the hotel/car rental agency etc. settles for an amount lesser than the deposit amount or you pay through a different mode the balance amount will get credited into your account only after 35 days from the transaction date.

Note: the Bank reserves the right to charge the Card holder for any unauthorized amounts.

Can the value of the card be topped up?
Yes, the top up or reloads can be carried out.

Can the ATM PIN be changed?
No, the ATM PIN cannot be changed at any of the HDFC Bank ATMs.

What if I forget my ATM PIN?
You can call the HDFC bank PhoneBanking for assistance. A new PIN will be sent across to your mailing address with the bank.

 

How will I know which ATMs accept the HDFC Bank ForexPlus Card?
All ATMs displaying the Visa/PLUS Logo will accept the HDFC Bank ForexPlus Card.

How many Visa ATMs and Visa Point of Sale (POS) terminals are there worldwide?
There are 85,000 Visa ATMs and over 13 million Visa Merchant Establishments worldwide, where you can use your Card. The worldwide list of Visa ATMs is available online at http://www.visa-asia.com. This card cannot be used for payments in India, Nepal or Bhutan.
